What is a Community College?
Community colleges (also called 2-year colleges) are great options for students to start their university studies. Community colleges offer 2-year degrees (called Associate’s Degrees) and provide many great pathways to complete a 4-year degree (Bachelor’s Degree) at high-ranking universities throughout the USA. *Some 2-year colleges offer 4-year degrees as well.ย
To receive your Bachelor’s degree in the USA, you will need to complete a 4-year program. The first 2 years of your study are called general studies (or gen-eds). Whether you choose to study at a university or community college, your first 2 years of what you study will be similar. After completion of your first 2-years, you will receive an Associate’s degree and then will pursue 2 more years of study to receive your Bachelor’s degree. Studying at a community college first provides you with many options and pathways to transfer to a top university later while providing a more affordable option.
